E. Llwyd Ecclestone Jr. is a visionary Florida real estate developer and philanthropist who leads the National Investment Company. One of Llwyd Ecclestone, Jr.’s landmark endeavors was spearheading a PGA National Resort & Spa development project that encompassed golf course, resort hotel, residential, and retail components.
Located in Palm Beach Gardens, the resort has as its centerpiece five 18-hole courses, including “The Champion.” Having hosted the Honda Classic of the PGA Tour for more than a decade, it was also host of the 1987 PGA Championship and 1983 Ryder Cup. From 1982 to 2000, the resort hosted the Senior PGA Championship as well, and it was the Professional Golfers’ Association of America’s headquarters for many years.
PGA National Resort & Spa developments additionally included a 339 room resort with a full conference wing and a health and racquet club. The latter encompasses the Golf Digest Academy and nine tennis courts. In total, nine lounges and restaurants are available to guests and visitors at the property. The PGA National Resort & Spa was sold in 2006. The acquisition by Walton Street Capital for $170 million was ultimately followed by a $218 million sale to Brookfield Asset Management in 2018.
